Project visits to Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt

The Youth Culture and Diversity project has had a significant impact of the youth engaged in the project. This is one of the take-away point from DUFs project visits to Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt.

During the past few months, DUF has been on project visits to Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt. Together with our partners, KFUM-Spejderne, Danish Egyptian Dialogue Initiative, WE Center and Les Scout Tunesiens, DUF has been evaluating our joint project Youth Culture and Diversity, which is now coming to an end. The Youth Culture and Diversity project consists of two components, the Ambassadors for Dialogue program and the Future Leaders project.

DUF meet with staff members, volunteers and beneficiaries of the project in Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt to talk about the impact of the project during the last five years of implementation. During the visits, it was clear that the project as impacted the behavior and way of thinking of the youth who has been engaged in the project

Ammar, one of the Ambassadors for Dialogue in Egypt, says:

“ After joining the Ambassadors for Dialogue project, I feel like I can be the changing point in my community and be the one that can push change. ”

One of the staff members of Les Scout Tunesiens adds to this point:

“ The project is giving a platform for young people to make a change and create results, both in themselves and in the local communities or groups. ”

During the visit in Egypt, DUF took part in an event testing a new dialogue game developed by the Ambassadors for Dialogue.

The key take-away points from the visits were:

Youth experience project activities as a safe space, where they can be themselves and discuss important topics in their lives.
The project helps fighting extremism among youth and contributes to a more accepting and diverse culture in Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt.
Through the project, youth in Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt get experiences with taking leadership and engaging in civil society.
As part of the project, youth in Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt get the opportunity to start up and implement projects, which are meaningful for themselves and their communities.
The partners of the project have built up the capacity to support other civil society organizations and public institutions in using youth approaches and enhancing youth participation.

In Jordan, DUF met with the Ambassadors for Dialogue and members of Dialogue Clubs.

About Youth Culture and Diversity project

The objectives of the Youth Culture and Diversity project is to strengthen youth participation, diversity, and cultural opportunities for youth in organizations, institutions and communities through innovative and creative methods and approaches.

The project has two components:

(1) The Ambassadors for Dialogue program is a partnership between DUF, Les Scouts Tunisiens, WE Center in Jordan and DEDI in Egypt. Since 2009, the partnership has been developing methods to engage youth in dialogue.

(2) TheFuture Leaders project is a partnership between KFUM-Spejderne and Les Scouts Tunisiens. Since 2007, the partnership has been focusing on the organisational development of the Tunisian scout organization as a platform for the civil engagement of youth and on capacity build youth as democratic citizens.

Youth Culture and Diversity is financed by the Danish Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP).
