DUF's work with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals
Youth has a very special role to play in our common mission to create a sustainable world. Young people are living in a time when, for the first time, there is a global focus on the need to make radical changes if our planet and us humans are to continue coexisting.
Globally, we are witnessing young people focusing on the challenges of the world: the climate crisis, rising youth unemployment, and attacks on democracy and human rights. Locally and nationally, we see again and again that young people come up with great solutions.
DUFs work with the Sustainable Development Goals is both local, national and international.
The SDG-partnership - a youth council partnership
The SDG Partnership is an international cooperation between national youth councils across the Global South and North. As of 2019, we are NYCU: National Youth Council of Ukraine, YETT: Youth Empowerment and Transformation Trust from Zimbabwe and DUF – The Danish Youth Council.
Our mission is to ensure meaningful youth participation in creating a more sustainable world by empowering young people to become agents of change in their local contexts, and to promoting the legitimate voice of the global youth in SDG implementation and decision-making.
The SDG Partnership has three objectives. As national youth councils and as a partnership, we strive to:
- Become champions of the SDGs/the 2030 Agenda
- Be legitimate, inclusive, and democratic platforms for youth participation and representation
- Advocate for youth participation and representation in forums nationally, regionally, and globally
DUF's Youth Delegate Programme
Every year, six Danish youth delegates represent the Danish youth at the UN as well as other multilateral fora. The youth delegates are representatives of Danish children- and youth organisations and appointed by DUF for a two-year period.
The Youth Delegate Programme is a part of DUF's cooperation with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Global Youth Programme.
The role of the youth delegates is to represent the Danish youth in the Danish delegations to the UN and other multilateral fora and to bring the voices of youth to be heard in international decision-making processes. In addition to this role, the youth delegates are also active agents in communicating and embedding global agendas among the Danish youth as well as interacting with DUF memberorganisations and other children- and youth organisations working with or within these themes.
